Have you ever heard of the phrase “Just do it,” associated with one of America’s favorite sports apparel brands Nike? American advertising executive and co-founder of Wieden + Kennedy (one of the world’s largest independently owned ad agencies), Dan Weiden, devised the tagline for the brand. W+K accounts for a plethora of campaigns under its belt with brands such as ESPN, Coca-Cola, Old Spice, Honda, and, of course, Nike. What makes Dan Weiden and his advertisement agency so special, you may ask? In an interview done with “Fast Company” by Bill Breen, Weiden shares their approach on marketing at the firm and the importance behind brand authenticity. When asked how exactly a brand can ensure its message is interpreted authentically, Weiden stated,
“Authenticity comes from having a real passion for the thing. When we first started working with Nike, we didn’t bother with focus groups and planning… We were trying to share something that we loved. It was that simple.”
Here, Weiden expresses the need to appreciate your client and what they stand for. Avoiding the manipulation of your brand’s audience, which is often done by marketing them as something they are not, is imperative for their success.
Charity Stebbins is the Senior Content Director at Conductor. Greg Hahn’s story is especially inspiring considering his constant resilience. Hahn recurrently contributes to columns for Adweek, Muse, and Campaign Magazine, earning him recognition as one of the “100 Most Creative People in Business” by Fast Company Magazine along with one of the top 10 Creative Directors by Adweek.

Working alongside small business and nonprofit organizations, she makes the betterment of her community the foundation of all she does. Inducted into the American Advertising Federation’s Hall of Achievement, Alex Bogusky is the Co-Chairman at Crispen Porter + Bogusky. Bogusky is credited for completely recreating 20th-century advertising norms, putting a much more innovative spin on the more popular form of marketing at the time, commercials. Bogusky is the force behind many memorable campaigns for brands such as Volkswagen, Burger King, and Microsoft.
